1968 Commando

Yes , but why ?
I'd search for an original and keep it original . Pretty sure there was no sidecover over the original long oil tank .
The 68 was a fastback model.. I don't have a tank, seat or tail piece also. The side cover is for the other side (Battery)
I want to ride the bike now.. I have lots of Later Commando bits. It would be easier and cheaper for me to run this with it in later commando dress for now and slowly collect the bit to make it year correct.
I do know the later seat will not fit and the frame is slightly wider..

I would use a later style oil tank because I don't think that early tank has the option for a breather tube entering the tank (for reed valve or case breather vent). Without it your breather will just vent to the atmosphere and puke oil.

Thank you. Do you know if I'll have to use a later style battery tray to accommodate the later oil tank?

The Fastback oil tank has an engine breather and a tank breather connection.

Hey Steve, I have a nice clean oil tank that I’ll probably never use. I’m in Ontario so no international shipping BS to contend with. Drop me a PM if you want to check it out.

Not to hijack your thread but I'm interested in your comment about the frame being slightly wider. I thought they where all the same but if they're not it might explain a spacer issue I had with my rear ISO unit.
