Batteryless norton commando 750 cafe racer

Add a battery, for testing it does not need to be on the bike just on the floor with leads long enough to connect to the electrics. Then repeat test with plugs on head.
General outline

Detailed instructions, use the part number on the box to select

Ok,thanks for the info, the consensus seems to be to fit a smallish AGM battery.Looking at it I could probably go that route with a little shift around of bits. I have got boyer electronic ignition along with a power box.If I were to get this battery would I take the feed from the battery to the powerbox or to the electronic ignition box.I think you can ascertain electrics aren't my thing, and I certainly don't want to mess up the Boyer parts.

Never had a powerbox, the 2MC ages then fails and as the powerbox has an equivalent buried inside then there are only downsides to its installation. The instructions I linked too have wiring diagrams which you can follow.

Yes its for batteryless, but it's likely your powerbox is still functional as long as its not too old. However even with batteryless you will need a good kick to get it to start, I can kick my batteryless B44 but not my 850. To get the 850 to start batteryless I need a hill to bump start.

Test as @L.A.B. suggested by kicking over with both plugs out and resting on the head, do you get a spark ?

We don't know what stator you have, if its a normal one why the need for an upgrade.
The t140e had a 180w alternator
I'm guessing this is why it would run batterylless with Lucas Rita
I have to really get engine spinning for it to catch

IIRC, the 2MC has a capacity of 4700 mf, the one in the boyer power box 2000 mf.
You could try a capacitor of 10 000 mf.
Kick starting an electronic ignition ( analog Boyer, Pazon..) on a capacitor alone is possible, but not easy.
Expect some serious kick backs.

I don't think Shadowcat mentions what Boyer electronic ignition he has.
They came in different flavours, and some deal with low voltage better than others.
This could make a difference if he is not using a battery and is using a boyer power box.
