Busted up a few fingers tonight trying to get the little bolt and nut on at the front of the guard.

Also, how do you tighten the shock bolt that sits inside the chain guard?

so whose footpeg rubbers are you using, the current world supply of "Dunstall" rubbers are not the same as the ones i originally had, and yours look a lot more like the original ones, thanks

I think these are original. If not original, they’re old.

My seat came today from Norvil UK and it’s beautiful. Really well made.

I raised the front fairing and adjusted the bars pretty well.

I want to spend a lot of time on fit and finish.

Bike looks good. I think you are going to end up with exactly what you wanted.

The best time spent on fit and finish will be the time you spend at work making the money to pay a professional painter.

Good advice and you’re absolutely right, a little harsh, but right.

My goal was a good roller so I’m pretty happy. Next is to build the engine and trans.

Last will be paint. That will give me time to think and make sure I’m painting the right scheme.

Have you tried @madass140 ? He is making repro Dunstall rearsets and may be able to provide rubbers.

i Have! his repo rubbers are similar or identical to the others i have found, but not like the original ones that the rearset had in the beginning...

the original set on my bike did not have a buildup end and the underside was tapered, unfortunately when i got the bike back the rubbers had been replaced with stock norton ones, and none of my pictures get close enough for a good view...

Draw a line down the centreline of that front mudguard, carry it through onto the faring, the tank, the seat unit and the rear mudguard.

Then paint one half red... the other half yellow.

Sorted.

But being serious for a moment, I feel for your dilemma, it’s funny how we can get wound up over such stuff, but we do!

FWIW, I think it depends a lot on what you’re trying to build. So I’d look myself in the eye and ask myself: ‘am I building A) a cafe racer or B) a PR rep’ ?

If you’re aiming to build (even loosely) a PR rep then it’s gotta be yellow, cos if it’s not, you’ll kick yourself whenever you see a yellow one!

However, if you’re building a cafe racer, then the worlds your oyster! In fact, it would be best to avoid yellow in this case cos all you’ll do is get annoyed by PR rivet counters telling you what’s wrong with you P&J, and that CAN become quite irksome after a while.

PR rep means you gotta try and stay accurate the factory theme and limit your choices. Cafe Racer means custom, so you gotta try and stay away from factory finish and exercise your imagination.

Plus, of course, red is faster ...
