Heat resistant paint for fins on a 1973 Commando Roadster

What type of heat-resistant paint has anyone used to paint the fins on a 1973 Norton Commando Roadster ?
 
I believe the original had a bit of gloss to it if I recollect right. Anyway you can get the VHT in flat or semi-gloss. The Krylon hi-temp holds up well enough also if the surface is clean once it cooks.
 
my 2-cents -- VHT -- if I was painting the barrels on my 74, i'd most likely go with - https://www.vhtpaint.com/ - matte black might be better at heat dissipation than gloss black - ;)

remember, when painting anything, it's all in the prep.

And to be original both 750 and 850 Commandos had silver/aluminum colored barrels. Think it it was to show they weren’t combats. In ‘74 they went back to black.
 
I've had great success with both PJ1 and VHT. Note that different black paints in their product lines will have
different degrees of gloss. I find high gloss to be offensive. They have silver/
aluminum paint as well.

Hammerite smooth works, and can be sprayed or brushed. It's a traditional enamel, so probably pretty close to factory (at a guess).
I forgot to remove the masking from the last barrels I did and the kitchen stank for hours after 'processing'.
Wifey saw the funny side eventually.
 
Dupli-Color Engine Enamel Ceramic - DE1615 Aluminum. Does NOT yellow. Nice matte finish. Used it top to bottom. Holding up very well despite showing only 500 degrees on the can.
 
According to physics, matte black IS better at heat dissipation (by radiation), than gloss black.... but better by only by 5% or less.

Unless one can get new hi tech NASA type paint, black rattle can paints have emissivity (e), of about 0.9, compared to metallic gold or silver of about 0.3 - 0.4. Flat black e is about 0.94 - 0.96. Hi tech black can get e very close to a perfect 1.0.

I used Rustoleum VHT matte black, then brushed gloss black on the fin edges, and cylinder base (insignificant heat transfer regions).

VHT gloss black caliper paint. Good to 900 degrees F. I painted mine in situ with a small brush between the fins and then spraying after masking well. Smells bad for a couple hundred miles as the paint cures. This works better than anything else I've used and this is about the fourth time I've painted the barrel in 40+ years. I think it was concours who recommended it and since then I've used it on a couple B&S Model As and a Kohler K321 single also. Wonderful stuff.

I wanted to stay with the silver on my 1973 850 so initially I used a silver barbeque spray paint but I sprayed it into a jar and then brushed it on but the paint was rather thin and needed a few coats. However I went to a local auto swap meet and thee was a guy there selling a high temp POR silver header paint in a small jar that works well.
 
Years ago I tried “stove black” it was flat black .... easy prep , didn’t last long but quick touch ups .... eventually used some semi-gloss black engine paint it still looks good
 
Instead of starting a new thread I´ll sneak in here, hope it´s ok....What about the crankcases, my -73 -850 looks like it´s painted, a yellow mis-coloration behind the barrels, typically under the carbs. Any specially good paint remover/new paint for this? I´d really wan´t them just bare metal but I guess it won´t last long....
