In Praise of James Norton

In 1924 Pa Norton applied for and received a patent for a chain driven overhead cam means of opening and closing the valves without springs.

This was called Desmodromique and was much later used by Mercedes and Ducati.

Sadly, Pa Norton died shortly thereafter and Norton never pursued his idea.

James Norton was quite the guy!

V Good . This new fiat ( Ferrari ) 850 TWIN , has electromagnetically opperated valves . Hope it doesnt get a short . Possibly not Lucas electrics though .
