Chrome, cad and paint looking great.

Re. mountings for later centerstand….. Do you mean the stepped bushings? I thought your 71 centerstand looked serviceable.

Hi elefantrider - thanks for the compliment. It is later centre stand so I have got the correct stepped bushings now but the holes in the cradle are too small. I think someone has fitted the later (stronger stand) but with the original bushings which are a very loose fit.

Ok, as it's not unknown for some Commando rear wheels (rims) to be offset to the left so I thought I should mention it. :wink:

Nice seat sir.

Poor choices of seat often detract badly from an otherwise good build IMHO. That's not the case here!

If you don't mind me asking: Exactly which model / variant is it, and where did you get it from?

Its the original base & foam recovered by R K Leighton in Birmingham - great service and I agree a fantastic job at a very reasonable price.

When I visited him to take the seat in and see his setup, he said the cover may not suit the purists as his mandrels for making the covers are either 1/4" or 1/8" narrower (can't remember which) than the original Norton covers, this did not concern me as I intend to ride it not show it and I think it looks great

Cradle drilled out using technique from one of swooshdave's earlier posts - removed head steady:

Removed front ending mount bolt and jacked up the engine:

Drilled out holes:

A 14.5 mm diameter drill was just about perfect size, bushes fit nicely:

Painted drilled out holes, lots of grease, bike now back on centre stand, nice to have straps out the way and some more room to work:

Been a while now but finally some more progress this weekend, timing side finished (not gearbox cover):

Primary side inner cover fitted:

Also some other minor items, hopefully progress will improve as winter months set in.

I trust you shimmed the stand-off lug behind the center through-bolt properly, so you don't crack the case when you tighten up the outer nut?

There should be no gap behind the cover.

Finally got round to polishing the gearbox cover:

Started experimenting with oil line and cable routings following guidance in various posts from the site:

Front mudguard on the right way round now (thanks LAB):

I don't know why some of the photos are rotated 90deg - they are the correct way round in Photobucket?
Feels like its getting closer at last!

It appears to be a Photobucket problem.

They have been doing some site maintenance recently so might be something to do with that.
If it doesn't sort itself out, you could try uploading those photos again.

I think you need to delete them from Photobucket and re-upload them.
