Apparently he has an issue in not receiving some emails and / or people not receiving his replies.
I guess the telephone is your best bet.
 
Hi brand new member. I realise that this thread is over a year old, but I have just bought a series one and the oil cap has threaded. I'm not sure anyone has ever put oil in it as its only done 1800 miles since new. Its in immaculate condition other than the threaded oil cap. my question is simple, I can't get the cap back on properly so its not sealed. Does it need to be for me to ride. I mean I know that I have to make sure that stuff doesn't get in, but can I ride with it loose. I ask because it has an o ring which suggests that it has to seal, but is that just to stop water?
 
Oil will splash out if you don't cover up the oil fill hole when driving. What do you mean by threaded oil cap ? Stripped threads ? Oil cap & dip stick missing ?

You have to make sure you put the dipstick in straight and not to one side, then you should find that it readily screws all the way down. The only problem ive encountered is that once seated it isn't so easy to unscrew but I use the rubber coated handles of a pair of pliers and it then shifts pretty easy.

Thanks for the replies all of you really fantastic - this forum is fantastic. The cap has stripped threads, and although not important its so tight its damaged the paintwork where its seated.
Rather than wait for the Thiel solution to arrive I have made a "socket style" spanner with the end of a hickory shafted hammer. Its like a reverse Philips screwdriver. It works fine although its a bit rough and ready. Because its wood it doesn't damage the metal. Because the thread is stripped it turns twice and then pops out. That's why I was asking about riding with a loose oil cap. Ill see a Norton specialist on Monday to get it fixed for a fee.

Thanks, I think its the plug/cap that's threaded. I also went to see my trusted mechanic just now, he suggested that I keep the cap dipstick but replace the plug with a plastic or nylon one that costs a lot less and won't matter if it gets a little deformed from the tight fit that it is. As I said it must be really tight as its scraped all the paint too. If anyone later is reading this tread I'm happy to show some pictures, and I'll try and remember to report back what the dealer suggests when I get there. Again thanks to all.
 
Glad to have found this thread. Mines back from service and I now can’t check the oil as it’s too tight. Really annoying, it doesn’t have to be that tight does it.

Anyway, as per above just cut a cross groove in to a round piece of handle wood and off it came, no issue at all.

Oil cap doesn't have to be tight. I barely snug mine up and it seems to tighten itself. Have a leather glove and small pliers nearby. My dealership used a paper towel and pliers (I tried to stop him...too late) and knicked off some finish.
 
Yeah, I took mine to my "go to" for bikes, its definitely threaded and barely screws in one turn but it seems to be enough, hasn't bounced out yet. I'll get it fixed/replaced at the next service.
