Good point V2D3. The dealer fitted the reservoirs during a service and for some reason used a genuine Rizoma mount for the clutch reservoir but the original 961 bracket for the front brake reservoir. He reshaped the original mount to get it to present correctly and no doubt weakened it considerably as a result - vibration would do the rest. Gonna fit the same Rizoma mount on both sides - should sort it :)👍

I was braking quite hard for a T-junction at the bottom of a hill - red light at the last decision moment. If my front brake had failed, I may well have ended up as a really expensive hood ornament!

Riding the awesome Norton 961 - never dull!!:oops:

Hey Cliffa.

My riding mate was nearly written off a few months back - his V4S certainly was. He was hit in the rear quarter by a young girl trying to shortcut a roundabout. Her fault, he got the blame, police were negligent and he had no video footage to prove what occurred. I needed a new lid at the time so decided I wanted a camera included, which led me to an Australian company and the first ‘smart helmet’ to gain ECE 22.05 certification. The Forcite MK1S - https://www.forcitehelmets.com/

Forcite are effectively Beta testing these helmets through a user community. It’s only ‘smart’ to a point - you can read about the tech. The big shortfall for me is that the comms system, which is great quality, can only talk to another Forcite helmet at the moment. No ability to sync with Sena, Cardo or other. They are working on that as a priority currently, before issuing an update. Until that occurs I retrofitted a Sena intercom to my smart(ish) helmet, so I can maintain comms with my less technically advanced ( :rolleyes:) riding mates!!

Aha, yes I remember you mentioning your mates accident. Thanks for the info on the lid, I’ll take a look.
 
Mmmmmmmm! All new European helmets (+Aus & elsewhere) will need to meet ECE 22.06 by June 23. Lots more testing and lucky us, we’re gonna get these:

Time for another annual birthday ride photo. Because of the weather, I had to do my 81st birthday ride a day late. Not too long a ride, because the weather was still pretty windy, and the gusts do move a bike around a bit at speed. I rode to my friend Eric's place in Santa Paula, where he needed a break from shoveling mud out of house and shops. Flooding was up to 4 feet deep on some parts of his property. He'll be at the cleanup for some time to come. This is a shot of my 961 and his Guzzi in his driveway. You can see how high the water was in their garage by the waterline at the bottom of the garage fridge.

This is me with our bikes at Boccali's Italian restaurant in Ojai, our most common choice for lunch on our weekly rides.

It was a good day for me. The last few months have been pretty hard, ending up with us having to move my wife to a memory care retirement facility last week. A good ride with friends really helps to clear my mind of other demons, at least for a while.

I saw the weather reports of the pounding that California was taking from the atmospheric river front.
Nasty stuff for sure.
Hopefully the worst is over now.
A good ride does help to clear out the cobwebs, and banish the demos.
Sorry to hear about your wife.
These situations really drive home how important family and friends are in all of our lives.

Hi Ken , It is nice to hear from you again.
 
Back on the road courtesy of Rizoma and ready for a blast tomorrow! Rizoma Universal Mount had to go on upside down as it’s not designed to be assembled to the 8mm mirror mount. Rubber section between mount and bars as opposed to mount and reservoir - all good.

How much heavier are those rizoma reservoirs compared to the stock plastic brembos?

Nice that the rizoma has rubber vibration dampers.
 
More nerdy and pointless weight saving....but every little helps.
Managed to bag a hollow front wheel spindle. It's still in its raw state, so I'll have to get it plated, but there's a few more grams of unsprung knocked off.
Next time I've got my front wheel out, I'll weigh the whole shebang against a standard spoked and tubed wheel.

Heavier I guess V2D3, but negligible. So negligible Rizoma don’t appear to list weight in their spec. Quality is exceptional though. Rizoma cafe racer indicators next, when I resolve the fitting of this bad boy!

C’mon guys - who else is ridin’ and where are the pictures? Haven’t seen a gleaming 961 Sport outside of a greasy spoon cafe or traditional British pub for ages - not a red telephone box in sight!!! No Dommie’s posing in front of an endless alpine vista! Or just you, caressing your Cafe in the garage, beer in hand of course! Remember - if there’s no pic, it didn’t happen!

Bush to beach in 30 mins today - feelin sorta lucky! Don’t need 200 horses and multiple modes to have awesome fun on one of these beauties! Had to extracate myself from several conversations about old/new Norton though. Situation normal!
