Thinking about commando prices , what’s your opinion ?

I have been looking at A65s, quite like the look of the grey painted OiF bikes. They arent going for silly money (yet). I feel the need for another toy / money pit.
 
If a Norton Commando is only worth what you can get for it when you sell it, why would you buy one ? - Same with houses.
 
Turning 70 this year. Plans are to thin the herd over the next few years. The 74 Commando and the Zed will be keepers. First two up on the block this spring will be the 72 Commando and the 74 Trident.
Commando was completley restored from the crank up with tons of new parts about 5 years ago with about 3K miles since. Except for blued pipes and a few minor chips it still looks and runs great. Not 100% factory has numerous upgrades, ei, 3 phase alt, podtronics, premier carbs, stainless lines, 75 seat, later tail-light, powder coated. Clear title and regularly ridden
Trident was also crank up rebuild, has a set of 69 cases but they are matching belly numbers, machine work done by Big D in Dallas, tons of new parts and upgrades, Also clear title and regularly ridden.
Been wondering best venue to put them up for sale and where to set prices.

Just saw this norton at Mecum Las Vegas auction today .
super nice restoration .
even had the unobtanium white rubbercaps under the headlight halo ring .
will watch to see what it goes for on Friday.
I will be working the show that day .
there were some other commandos there as well .

all I know is I'm gonna need Commando prices to triple before I sell it after spending all this $$$ getting it sorted.....
 
It does cost a lot to restore the commando . That’s why I started this thread To get the prices up .
I just ordered the last of my parts a few minutes ago .
I spent a lot but am getting what I want .
it won’t be for sale .

I’m also pretty curious what that will go for. I’ll get a pretty good idea what mine is worth….. mine won’t be for sale (probably ever) but cool to know
 
I pretty much know what they are worth when sold direct - at least in the USA - I've sole/bought quite a few. When you start including Auction Houses, eBay and others the prices end up being inflated. The only people actually making money worth mentioning are the ones who part them out.
 
I find the flea market section of the adventure riders board to be a good bellwether test of what a bike is worth. And from what I’ve seen on there, $7500 Commandos sell in a few weeks, $10,000 Commandos don’t seem to sell at all. And I’m talking about nice, presentable, documented, but not necessarily restored, bikes.
 
The totally restored and very nice 1970 S , blue fireflake sold Friday at Mecum auction for 15,000
but I think they tend to sell high at the big auctions.
there were other Nortons , there , maybe 6 -10 . Never watched them go thru and never researched their prices .

I've got a pair of those, in a TINY ziploc baggie, with a tiny part number sticker on it.

...now, where did I leave those little beauties?...

Might be a perfect candidate for a 3D printer project.

Not sure what you mean by that, or are they more like a soft vinyl end cap. I have never seen them in person, just assumed they were a hard plastic.

I have an original set on mine, I don’t know if they were soft when they left the factory but I would not consider it “soft” they are not as hard as 3d printed parts either… the best comparison I can come up with is it’s similar to the front fork dust guards
