What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Going back together - looks like someone was snacking on the clutch cam roller. Replaced it, of course. Trans shifted like butter in the bench test.

Mounting thread in the oil filter head was half stripped, helicoil on its way. Had the tap, but was out of inserts. Excuse to get the "shop truck" out...

Got the chain on to find the cush rubbers are toast - another excuse for a ride on the “shop truck” over to Walridge :cool:

Love the AWSV - I am sure a few people on here will lose their poop on that one - lol!!

The crank vent catch can is classy too.

So you're the one with Carl's bike, meh, I hardly feel bad for him, he's got too many as it is
 
Drove it again. 5 or so people complimenting it at traffic stops , stores and of course , the bank.
Drove up to the pumps for a $25 fill up . Others ( cage drivers ) before me , were filling up for $100 or more and with serious looking faces.
Tomorrow more trout fishing so burning fuel yes.
 
After replacing a brand new front tube that I pinched when mounting the new 100/90-19 RR II, as well as some other self inflicted wound repair, I rewarded myself with a 28 mile ride up into the Adirondack foothills to have a burger and a beer at a rustic bar/restaurant located a few miles outside of a small village. Temperatures were in the high '70s so it was comfortable with the liner zipped out of my leather jacket. No wind, a delightful evening for a ride. I took a round about route home to avoid the glare of the setting sun and ended up putting 69 miles on the clock.

It was so delightful when I got home just as darkness fell. I decided to leave the bike on the apron to my garage doors and admire my beautiful girl in the soft light while enjoying another beer before turning in for the night.

I know the background of my cluttered up garage might seem to take away from the subject, (I haven't gotten settled yet after my move last September) if you look closely, you'll find some interesting items in the garage. The picture was taken with flash as can be seen from the reflectors lighting up.

Blasted to Colborne , Coburg , Brighton , Baltimore , for Norton powered trout fishing . Perfect planned weather , with overnight camping on Shelter valley Creek. Bike ran great except for occasional issues getting into second gear. Ordered in all new springs for MK 111 tranny. Home with trout.
 
FINALLY put the front wheel on. Need a few other bits to implant here and there maybe
ready to ride late next week. Progress!
 
Today I clocked the 2000 mile mark on this rebuild and being the first Norton Commando I have ever rode can say it has been the best 2000 miles of any machine I have ever had, hands down, and I have had quite a few. Not only that but it gets a little over 60mpg and there are very few roadworthy machines from my experience that balance fun with economics.
 
Took my ‘74 mk2 out today for my 2nd ride since I bought it. Stretched its legs a little further this time, still feeling it out and what issues it may have. Bike actually ran great, no major issues except broken spedo drive and a broken rear wheel spoke.
 
Nearing the end of the rebuild of the bitsa Interstate I bought with the insurance payout from the cafe wreck. Motor back in over the weekend and now mounting ancilliaries and wiring.

Couple of questions if anyone from the assembled brains trust can advise -
1. Where does the assimilator mount spring thingy mount to? The LHS coil mount?
2. Where does the red (+ve) earth lug bolt to? I'd pick the head somewhere, but it doesn't seem to conveniently reach what I'd suppose is any of the obvious places.

If you are using the stock head steady I think this works

No idea on the assimilator though. The green arrow points to one of the coil screws that might suffice.

Ah, thanks LAB. Got it.
Yeah, going to go for the centre headstedy screw for the earth point. It'll reach without putting any stress on the wire.
 
I rode the 74 40 miles. Finally got all the bits on, new Pender front brake to join his cush rear end.
