I've done the same and agree the roadster looks sexier. But it means I can ride with friends, without being the one needing fuel stops.

I now leave the roadster side panels on, with the interstate tank and seat. I think it looks better.

Yes, I saw a pic somewhere of an Interstate with Roadster side panels and thought it looked great. If my originals were black, that would be the way I'd go 👍

You could have the best of all worlds by strapping the roadster tank on the seat behind you!!??

With Roadster panels. The luggage rack was on for a trip, but I took it off afterwards.

It's from the teething troubles during my first couple of months with my Commando, when the Norton tool kit was essential to get me home. That was a couple of years ago now, the bike has been pretty much as good as gold since. But, I can't help thinking the first time I leave the tools behind, it'll teach me a lesson :).

I carry the same tool roll to this day , do the same .
 
Looks like some important surgery on the schedule tis week doc. Or is that the intensive care ward.
 
I bought an Interstate tank off eBay. I had posted this in our "Things I've seen..." forum and only days later decided to take a leap at purchasing. The original price was too dear, but the seller sent out a lowered price to several lookers (my Watchlist?) and it comes with a fresh Ceandess gas cap so that's $75.00 right there. I offered a lowball figure against their offer and was instantly approved, so now it is mine. I use an outfit, Metalworks, in Eugene, Oregon who acid dips tanks for $100.00, but until I get a good look at the inside of this tank I won't dip it - my fear is nothing would remain?! I have recovered several Roadster tanks and use the Caswell sealing system religiously but typically only when the weather is warmer and the viscosity and cure time is ideal.

My first Commando had a nice steel Interstate tank with Roadster side covers and I loved the look so will go in that direction. If anyone cares to PM me about any idiosyncrasies in dealing with these tanks please do! I am collecting data and since this is a long-term fix will apply what I learn to bringing this tank back to its duty.

The tank that I am using was dipped by Metalworks in Oregon. It came back clean as a whistle, everything that was on it and in it gone. However, he does drill a small hole in the bottom for ventilation that will have to be welded up before you can use it. Just an FYI if you did not already know.

Took my 850 out for a ride, and dropped the engine oil and trans oil for fresh oils as I ready it for the winter hibernation. Probably a few more rides in before it gets too cold and snow arrives. I'm not a fan of wearing a snow suit to ride my Rosalita...
 
Drove Norty to Parkdale for an anniversary Art show/reunion , then some postering work by the wife for her upcoming music show ( 5 bands ) , then fired it up to go along Queen St . for more posterings in Kensington Market and beer at Last Temptation , then more postering and into Grossman's Tavern for the Happy Pals Saturday Matinee . Drove home up Bathurst in heavy traffic . Pulled plugs at home , timing side rich , drive side perfect plug . Adjusted T. side out , put cover on for earlier night now . Cooler too .
