I've seen pictures of both ways, it seems correct to have speedo on right of my 1972 since the speedo drive is on the right but the tach drive is also.

On mine the speedo is on the left was like that from new, but really does it really matter put them on that suite you as long as the cables have a straight run with not kinks or tight areas.

The speedo is normally on the left on a Commando. Triumphs normally have the speedo on the right.Which side is the tach and speedo on a Commando?

Which, if you have both bikes, drives you crazy.
It doesn't bother me but every other bike I've owned has had the speedo on the left (Japanese, German) why Triumph decided to put the speedo on the right remains a mystery.

Strange isn't it lol. I've always put my speedo on the right! Just seems right to me. Yet all my Tritons & Nortons came the other way round. As close to adh as I've got so far is changing them all over.🤣

I presume the Commando tacho is on the right 'cos the tacho drive is on the right side of the engine, and thus the Triumph tacho is on the left 'cos the tacho drive is on the left side of the engine. Only gripe with the Commando speedo on the left is that the 'natural' curve of the clutch cable runs across the face of the speedo.

Since my Commando came to me with the speedo on the right, I'm pondering reasons to change it to the left. While riding, there seems no advantage or disadvantage one way or the other, and If I have to adapt to it, it is of minimal consequences of all the things I have to adapt to when going from a Japan bike to a Commando.

Switching would take all of 15 minutes to accomplish, and I might end up with better routed cables to each guage when done.

Yes but then you are daring to change what the designers came up with. You know what happens to
people whose bikes are not original.
Starts with a simple change of speedo location and the next thing you know they are posting about
problems with their supercharger installation.
A slippery slope...

Like waking from a dream, I caught myself shopping for extended swingarms and 300 wide tires.
