A mate of mine was taken out by a van driver 3 months ago
The van driver tested positive for drink and drugs!!!
My mate is still in hospital he has a broken hip, broken femur,broken foot etc he had a bleed on his brain and lungs
He's so far had 22hrs of surgery
But he's recovering
The same can't be said of his street triple or the transit van!!!
 
Katie Price turned over her BMW 4x4 while under the influence of cocaine and alcohol at 6.20 in the morning.

Luckily she didn't kill or injure anybody. The road is relatively close to where I live and many horses and cyclists
use it regularly. It's a bit narrow with loads of blind bends, high hedges and hidden dips.

She was driving to see a mate while banned from driving and with no insurance.

But the judge said she's got problems so allowed her to go to the Priory for rehab.

Many celebs have poured out their support on social media.

Anybody else would have been locked up and battered by social media

You can be as careful as is reasonable , but almost impossible to protect yourself from selfish , stupid ! Which sadly seems to prevail in most of our world …. maybe some lessons learned in these episodes ,sure hope so ….

Yup
Can't go locking up an "important" (why are they important? I don't know, ask the media) celebrity for committing the same offense as an average citizen.
After all...they are special...just ask them, or the judge she snow plowed for in court.

I spent my career in the motion picture industry as a cinematographer and had a LOT of exposure to the various "stars" be they motion picture, rock stars, pro athletes or politicians.
One thing that becomes apparent immediately is the "person" seen on camera is in no way related to the "person" off camera, by no means, most pro athletes excluded.
I met some really good ones, but, as a rule if I was never again exposed to another actress/actor or rock star I would die a happy man.
Beware those who excel at assuming another persona.

Our problem here in Aus is youths and under-age car thieves just last week a 13 year old in a stolen BMW plough up the rear end of a car which crossed in front of another car head on 3 innocent people killed instantly and another fighting for life and the 13 year old walks away with minor cuts he is locked up and his 13 year old passenger ran from the accident.
This is happening way to much here in Australia more youth in stolen cars running amuck, we have very strict drink driving and drug testing on out roads which use to be big problem but now youth and under age driving where innocent road users getting kill has taken over drink and drug driving deaths on our roads.
And because they are under age when caught the law won't let anyone to know their names and most have been dealt by the court and let go many of times with a slap on the rish, there is now a big cry for the law to change and treat these young offender to be treated as adults and suffer the consequences of what they have done so many innocent people have lost their lives because of these young offenders who knows they will be free with a slap on the risk so they keep doing it.
Youth crime is getting out of control here in Australia and the police are helpless as the courts are letting them go to do it all over again.
This 13 year old is well known to the police and has been let go everytime he been caught by the courts.
Something has to change and not let these young criminals get away with it no longer.
One to the 3 killed was a nurse driving home from her shift at the hospital at around 11pm and 2 other young girls in their late teens killed.

Many years ago in Tasmania, there used to be car and motorcycle raciung at Symmonds Plains. The police moved to stop it, because it set a bad example of the use of motor cars and motorcycles. But the reality is that participants in motor sport are almost invariably COMPETENT. In Australia, you can get a licence without ever driving at speeds above 60 KPH. Yet on our highways the speed limit is 110 KPH.
I would guarantee that less than 5% of Australian car drivers have never had their car swap ends at 100 KPH. However the belief seems to be that if you have a licence, you are competent.
We do the same thing when our universities issue degrees which certify the competence of people who have NO EXPERIENCE.
In our town, there is a motor racing circuit which is owned by a car club - no training courses.
 
When you ride your motorcycle on public roads, probably the only time you ever really learn anything would be when there is a crisis.
Where I once worked, we used to make nitroglycerine by the batch process. If it went wrong, you could disappear instantaneously. - so I am extremely risk-conscious.
My friend who used to run Winton Raceway was amazed when I told him 'motorcycle road racing is safe'.
I do not ride a motorcycle on public roads. I have known 3 guys who were killed while racing, but by the time I was age 29, I knew 12 who were killed on public roads. That was when I went racing.

We all know your thoughts on road vs racing, bit of a broken record really, in 50 years of riding on the road as well all my mates who started riding bikes at the same time and we are all still riding on the road, we haven't in 50 years of riding together lost anyone from riding on the road, yes a few have had accidents and injuries but always got back on the road without being put off, I have lost more riding mates through life mistakes and bad health, heart attacks, the big C and alcohol abuse, not riding their bikes on the road.
I been riding for 50 years now I still ride my hotrod Norton I built, my 1200 Triumph Thruxton and my high powered Honda CRF450X dirt bike, in my 50 years of riding on the road I have only had a few short breaks in that time 3 left knees injuries in my younger day, a fractured arm in my later days when thrown over the Norton handle bars and 3 license suspensions, I still ride all my bikes like I stole them and really haven't changed my riding style since I first time I jumped on a bike after leaving school at 15, at 64 I still ride my high powered dirt bike that does wheelies in all gears and is very quick and powerful in the dirt, I have always had a bike Al I don't know how you can keep talking about all your racing in reality its been so long since you been out on your bike and when you were racing you had a lot of long breaks in between, I couldn't do that just a week off my bikes is way too long.
Maybe you should stop thinking about it and get back on your bike and don't listen to no one but yourself and do it, if my wife told me to stop riding, she would know not too as I wouldn't listen to her, my bikes are my life, I don't just talk about days gone by as I just get on them and go, the roads are just as dangerous as you make it out to be, I am more wiser when out these days and paying attention in what others are doing around you and having a bike that has the power to get you out of any troubles.
Get back on your bike before its too late instead of talking about how it was, any way I am out of here, I am going for a ride even if its overcast here.

The problem is pretty much, that if I fall and break my hip, my wife can end-up looking after me. My only motorccycling ambition, is to do an on-board video at Winton. My Seeley 850 was just another development project, and with it I have actually achieved. A video would show what it is, and what it does - it is very different from most other bikes. I only ever built it out of interest. I am actually astounded at the motor - I never thought it could perform well enough to be competitive.
There are a few things currently stopping me -weather, my trailer and the local raceway has gone stupid. I need to go there and talk to the new guy in-charge. However, I still feel a lot of grief. A few days ago, I actually did a few things to my bike, where previously I could not even look at it.
All I need to do is put the primary drive back together and fix the rear brake, then I can strart the the bike. - 30 minutes' work.
I never thought I could be so badly affected in this way by a couple of people passing.

I appreciate that you love riding on public roads, but I find doing that is simply frustrating. You can never use a motorcycle on public roads, in the way in which God intended.
 
I do not know what the future of motorcycling will be in Australia. When I drive my car and see a motorcycle, I always take care to avoid giving them any worries - However, I rode motorcycles on public roads until I was 29. Back on the old days, many car drivers were drunk. But these days, they have mobile phones and drugs, To me, the risks are not tolerable. I do not want to die because of some incompetent lame-brain. With a car, you can just bounce off them.
I also believe road-racing of classic motorcycles is finished. Very few people have the required mind-set.
 
Al it's a terrible thing getting old and understand that but worrying about what may happen is the worst thing you can have stuck in your head, yes I have lost a few great riding mates I have known all my riding life and some even longer and I think about them all the time but none of them died on their bikes.
I don't even think about what might or could happen while out on the bike, if I did I wouldn't enjoy what I like best in life.
There is danger with everything we do in life if we worry about walking to the shop or slipping over in the shower, anything could happen, more people get killed in their homes but we don't seem to think about them things and really while out on the bikes I don't think about it at all, I just ride and do take my chances as I do with everything in life, enjoy while we can as we all die at some point in our lives, look death in the eyes and give him the finger, enjoy what we like to the fullest I say and don't think about what might happen, there is enough distraction already on the road than to have a destruction in your own head thinking about what could be.
