Question: If you have no center stand, how do you grease your chain? Check oil? Do maintenance?
Another 300 km. fishing / camping trip return . rain , but fun . Caught my limit in tiny creeks . Mosquitos . Bike ran great .
After return ( battling 401 construction traffic ) in Toronto , washed the bike on the side stand , let it dry ( had a beer from 401 stress ) , then got out the squirt bottle of gear oil . Used a knee pad to apply it along the lower chain rung , then pushed the bike forwards 5 feet to apply more to the lower length . Then 3 more feet , more gear oil , then rolled it backwards into parking spot on street . Shop rag cleaned a few drips , you want to leave a clean street .
This is the IWIS Chain , it has not shown any wear after 3 years and I drive a lot , can't say that for the previous Reynold ones . I clean and lube it after every trip exceeding 250 KMS .
As for oil tank level checking , I do that on the side stand too . I pull the dipstick , wipe it clean , put it into the filler cap ( resting on top ) , lift it and observe level ( anywhere around half way between high and low is fine ) . The motor uses J.S. intake valve seals with Black Diamond valves , and the bedded in pistons mean it uses next to no oil . No leaks .
Here in Toronto , my friend Michel offered recently to help with maintenance out of the goodness of his heart . He has a lift and we tore apart the front end and put in a new one . Thanks .
