Overall quality of fit and finish looks top drawer.

The colour scheme on this LE version is even better in ‘the flesh’. It really does look classy.

The exhaust note is a tad less raw than my old one which ran shorties and de cat pipes. It’s deep and mellow and sounds very, very, nice.

The engine rattles like an old skool air cooled lump should. The primary does not sound like an impending catastrophic failure like my old one did. Thank goodness!

So first impressions are all very positive. But I haven’t ridden it yet.

One niggle… I didn’t get a handbook… that can’t be right can it ?!

The dealer should have supplied you with one get on to them straight away it's a beautiful thing and looks classy.

Nice, looks like grand dad, and junior next to one another.
The LE looks pretty sharp.
I like the arc of the red stripe on the top side of the tank.
Is the lower stripe black or dark blue?

It’s called the Transatlantic Ltd Edition. Red, white, blue colours, named after the Transatlantic Trophy race series that (along with F750) was kinda the Commandos peak racing success …

Most of you know already that I’m trying really hard to get to like, or at least accept, the gold Ohlins forks. It’s SO obvious they shudda been black.

So, I gets it out of the shed for a (freakin cold) ride yesterday and as it’s parked outside the shed I says to daughter #1 (who has slightly less than zero interest in bikes):

“Waddya think”

To which she replies:

“Hmmm, it’s ok. I don’t like those orange pipes on the front though”

ORANGE PIPES !?!

They’re gold… not orange. And they’re forks… not pipes.

Where did I go wrong ??

He's a lucky man ! Very memorable on a Norton 961 too. Can you ask him next time how he maitains his chain ? Is he carrying a can of chain spray along and how often does he spray the chain ? I am on my second chain , replaced at 16,000 miles currently at 22,000 miles. Richard Pearce comes to mind he must be on his third chain I guess and this fellow on number six ?

On 33,000 , still on second chain , second front sprocket & third rear sprocket, have the gold talon rear sprocket which matches the gold on the onlins suspension

Typo below I think - Motul Chain Lube Road, applied every 600km. He’s doing pretty well on chains - getting his monies worth to say the least!

100k km on a set of sprockets? Not sure that’s possible; maybe his memory’s not quite right on that. Gary really knows his eggs though - that bike is heavily modified as we’ve discussed before. He doesn’t baby it either, judging by the way he took off from my place the last time he visited!






Heading to Strahan I think.

Well I got the handbook without any fuss thanks to Andy at Macpherson Motorcyles in Plymouth (great outfit).

It looks lovely. It’s very glossy and well made. Looks great on the coffee table.

Only downside is it is rather deficient in terms of containing actual useful information !!

Blast out today was a hoot - keep er’ in the sweet spot and just ride that torque. Makes me smile every time - no rocketship required!!

Had to extract myself from a couple of ‘my dad had a Norton……’ chats, or I might still have been there!

Mmmm
When I went to live in Oz my cousin warned me of this thing called sunshine and how I would soon be lighting fires to keep cool and throwing dust into the air to make my own clouds and he was spot on. . When I decided to paint the garage my mate stood behind me with the hosepipe on a fine mist because the paint was drying before the end of the stroke.
