Can anyone recommend a Smiths Speedometer repair service?

Well that sucks Jimbo. My buddy Tommy who you sold the Drouin to used them to do the clocks on his 68 Bonneville. They did a good job. Why don't you contact the seller. Or file a complaint with eBay and get your money back.

I would first contact the seller and see if he'll make good. If he doesn't then file a complaint with eBay. They will get your money refunded.

I received a 74 Norton Commando rebuilt speedo from them last week, aprivatepeace503 the ebay seller. Casually it seemed ok, until I compared the face with an original. The numerals, and lines are not as crisp, the green globe is incorrect, the bezel is poorly crimped, The needle center was obviously corroded and redone . The speedo with 2010 miles is the one rebuilt by them. Most of these items are not very noticeable , but I'm just saying.....

That really is too bad Jimbo. I know that the Link that I sent @ Post #4. Has All the original Smith Instrument tooling which he bought when Smith Parted Company. He has Original face plates and parts to make it right for any scrutinizing eye. He has the Smith tool to roll crimp the bezel back on the housing which is OEM quality. And his cables are top shelf in quality.
Using a screw driver to re-crimp the bezel is just shady tree mechanics IMHO. So unprofessional, especially if you are paying money for the service.

Just so you know: SMITHS Aerospace does our faces. No other company in the world does Smith’s faces. I cannot do better faces than Smith’s Aerospace. It takes a $65,000 machine to do it. The faces we are given by Smith’s Aerospace are all that is available. Please send your rebuildable gauge to anyone that can do better. I do not wish to have any unhappy customers. Smiths Aerospace is the parent company of Smiths gauge industries. They hold the original copyrights. Joel Levine marks his faces with “B” on the ends of the 0000/00 number system to keep Smiths Aerospace from suing him.

heres what aprivatepeace503 sent, its hard to see in the photos but the green is a different shade and would not match the original tach, and the fade away striping is different. The original effect was to give the 3D impression of a globe

The faces are silk screen printed. Saying there is only one silk screen printer who can match the originals is talking BS.

Smiths Chronometric Speedometer Face Dial SC5301/26

This 140mph speedo face should fit many Smiths chronometric instruments of the '50s through early '60s. Stenciling is splendid, material aluminum. Not at all sure of app, so please do your own research, and mind the mounting points. I have several other styles on the site.

NOS Smiths Tachometer Face Dial RSM3003/10 Norton Commando

Limited quantity, get them while you can.... For early models, I believe. These NOS units are in excellent shape, but may not be perfect/perfect, being nearly 50 years old. However, I will not send something I think you'll be unhappy with, and full refund of original payment no problem on return.

I have used Smithwerk.com Andy does a great job and has a quick turn around. Andy has a printer and can print his own dial faces. He can do any cable driven speedometer motorcycle, car or truck. He is in Carson Iowa, phone 712 746 7450.

I received my speedometer back from West Valley today. Total of 14 days from when they received it to back in my hands. My cost to ship to them
via USPS $ 26.40 which included insurance value of $ 500. Repair, parts ,
Tax and return shipping $ 311.91. They were able to save the bezel - if not it would have been an extra $ 32. IIRC.
I have reinstalled it but not tested it yet . I found them very easy to deal with excellent communication, speedo looks brand new , done when promised and a tad less than the price quoted. Excellent packaging as well .It includes a one year warranty. Providing it works when tested I can highly recommend them .
