Corbin vs stock seat

My 1972 Commando Roadster came with two seats, a Corbin Gunfighter and the stock two up seat. I knew the Corbin was harsh riding with the over 15 year old tires that came on the bike. I rode it a few times with both seats and the old tires and I tested to see if the Corbin was soft enough with the new tires. It is still too firm with the new tires, and it also requires me to sit further forward than I would like. It is also hotter since it cradles my butt more closely.

The Corbin seat shure does look good when sitting still without a rider. I don't know if Corbin can install softer foam, or if it'd be worth it. For now the Corbin is my "show" seat, not my riding seat.

I love my Gunfighter, although it's on an Interstate, so I sit further back. (4" - so I did halfway rearsets to match)
I do take the occasional passenger so have modified a stock seat with the Corbin latching hardware so it's a one minute change between them.
Cheers

You either have a Corbin shaped arse, or you don’t.

Not much you can do about it either way !

I don’t think they do soft foam coz the whole point of their design is to support. Worth asking though I guess.

I've done exactly the same

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. For my arse the Corbin is the most supportive and comfortable seat I’ve every used (not that I can claim as many as most), it took me to the INOC rally in France last year, 300 miles in one day + return and I’m now in Pescara, Italy after 5 continuous days @ 1300 miles without any fatigue butt or otherwise.

Last day in particular was 150 of constant twisties and switchbacks in the hills from Pesero to Pescara, unbelievable!!!

The Norton solo Corbin seat is bowl shaped, and locks your ass in one position. If that is the right position for you, great.
If you want to move forward or back, for any reason, forget it.
Where you want to put you ass depends on a few things: length of legs, arms, and torso, the bars you are using, the location of the footpegs, whether you like an upright or aggressive forward leaning position.
I am probably missing a few variables.
IF all of the above means the Corbin puts you ass in the right place, you win.

Stephen Hill - That's it in a nutshell, but even if my Corbin seat pocket was back at least two inches, it's still too firm and hot especially with leather pants. It doesn't absorb shock like the stock seat. Maybe if my roads were as smooth as say in Switzerland or Austria.

When my wife bought a BMW (car) with very firm leather seats, initially I hated them.
Then I discovered on longer trips they were more comfortable. Sometimes a soft seat does not support you where you need it.
A complicating factor is as we age we get old man backside, which often means the padding goes missing.
Some women, seeking the Kardashian look, get butt implants.
But I digress.

I've had several Corbin seats and have liked them (subject to the following). They are definitely, um, firm. You either like that or you don't. I do.

That said, as noted above, their stepped/bum positioning seats do dictate where you sit. On my Norton, that works fine. I did have a beautiful "dual tour" seat on a BMW R100RT though, that while comfortable in terms of my posterior, did position me too far forward for my legs'/knees' comfort so I had to sell it (at a considerable loss) and buy a NOS original (I had given away the one it came with in a fit of generosity/overconfidence when I received the Corbin, which felt great at first until putting a few miles on and realizing that while my bum was content, my legs were not).

I also love my Corbin seats......though none of them were "good" out of the box. I have 2 gunfighter ,1 Interstate Corbin and a seat with a cowl they made called a smuggler. I sent them off 1 by 1 to my upholstery guy and they were all modified and set up with gel inserts. To be fair I have my share of Aurthur and itis.I can say this my bladder screams at me before my ass does....and that's something

When I built my Commando/Featherbed 850 I installed a Commando interstate seat for two up riding with mods to the seat mounts then I brought a new solo interstate seat with the hump from Burtons British Bikes and mounted it on the Featherbed, this is the most comfortable seat I have ever ridden with, all day riding and long trip I have never had any problems and clocking up long day miles, the seat is so comfortable, Danny also sells seats for the Roadsters, I have had the Solo seat on the Norton now for over 15+ years now, I also brought a new seat cover from Danny for the duel seat, was very fast delivery to Aus, 3 working days from England and very good to deal with.

Went for a 70 mile back-road ride today and was reflecting that something that makes the thinly padded Corbin so more than acceptable is the Nitron R3 rear shocks. I have the high-speed compression set to minimum and they just soak up the bumps, Not cheap but it is a purchase I would definitely make again. If they're easy on my body they're probably good for the bike too. Been on over 6 years now.
They do need a small mod to allow them to clear the chain guard though.
When I was looking around it was @kommando who recommended them to me - thanks again!
Cheers
