broken shifter linkage and parasitic drain

I ended up just taking the back assembly off, the 4 bolts and oil catch plate thing and then I just undid the set screw for the shifter and slid it off of the splines. Installed the fixed rod that Ken C. helped with and reinstalled it so that the foot rest was 40 mm above the shifter. It seems ok, but I will report back after I ride it some more. I only went in a little circle to see if it would shift. It seems mushy-er than it used to before the bike fell over. I hope that just the rod was damaged and nothing internally in the primary. As for the battery drain issue, I bought a tiny inverter that runs on rechargeable dewalt tool batteries since i had two of them. After a day of changing out fresh batteries and running the optimate trickle, the battery is easy to maintain up in the morning with one battery. It only takes like 20 or 30 minutes to read full. This is just my temporary fix until I can actually afford to have a home with a garage OR splice into the fuse box where the drain is and add a fuse that I can reach without having to take the seat off. Thank you very much to this forum for all of the help. and I thought my 74 commando was finnicky!? Holy IKE! Now I just have to figure out why it's dumping a lot of oil into the catch can after having sat for a while. Oh, these bikes wet sump also? hahahaha smdh

As the 961 bears the Norton Commando name they thought it would be only fitting to have them wet sump and leak oil (amongst many other things)! 🤣

Bike is shifting great again. Whew! Thanks Ken C.! you're the best. I appreciate your know-how. Now I just have to figure out why my idle is so dang low hahaha grrr
