The leg makers wanted to know what patten I would like on my new leg and I didn't know what to put on it, but Jerry sent Debra and me Access Norton T shirts and sweat shirts for both of us and I thought that be nice logo on the leg, thanks Jerry and his lovely wife, the new leg fits great, I wore it for 6 hours the other day when we had to get out and about to do things, I didn't tell rehab that but and I haven't told them I been walking around the house and yard without any aids just me and my 2 legs, next week rehab are giving me 2 walking sticks so no more crutches.
Walking without any aids I can now understand why they put a lot of training on my hips to build up my hip muscles, the hips replaces the missing calf muscle, putting weight on the right hip before I step with my peg leg, it's all starting to come together and soon rehab be setting me free.
It's a strange getting used to walking differently when you have 2 real legs with the peg leg, the body has to be straight, put weight on the right hip and the right shoulder has to stay inline with the right hip before you take a step with the right peg leg, training the brain to do this is the hardest part but I am slowly putting it all together and the rehab physio's can't believe how well advance I am with learning to walk again, but of course they do know I been doing more than what they tell me I am allowed to do outside of rehab, Britteny my trainer just tells me to be careful and to take it slowly, she knows I am keen to get back on with my life.
6 months today since the accident and I am doing so well, better than a lot of other amputees I have met who have been longer than me learning to walk with their new leg, the hardest part is for the stump and skin to get used to the leg, the skin on my lower leg/stump needs to toughen up more and I have to keep a close eye that the skin don't break as that will set me back while it heals, but so far so good, the skin is very tender where I had road rash.
