Does it help to fit anodized slides in worn carb bodies? Or do rebuild kits come with o/size slides, allowing for carb bodies to be machined to o/size as well? I must confess not having spent much consideration on the s/h carbs to be fitted to my bike.

Start adding up what you are going to spend rehabing worn carbs vs buying new especially if considering resleeving worn bodies. At some point it no longer makes sense. The new Premiers have a lot of nice features, anodized slides, stay up floats, removable pilot jet.
 
New premiers come with 3.5 slides.

However, I do agree with Knut, which is why I put my old Amals in the spares bin and got new Premiers.

No regrets.

New slides are just new slides, not oversized, so you’re only repairing half of the wear. So it’s certainly no way of rehabilitating properly worn carbs (and if I did buy new slides, I’d buy heavy chromed brass ones personally).

Hence, as has been said already, I’m one of those that thinks that by the time you have bought second hand carbs, and then paid to rebuild them, you might as well just buy new ones, and make ‘em Premiers to solve the pilot jet issues whilst you’re at it.

But that’s not the direction Norcoastal has chosen to take.

I’ll see how they run when I get the motor done. That probably won’t be for a while.

Here’s a question. I now have the rear brake complete and it works. If you look at this picture, the cable doesn’t seem to sit well in the mount on the frame. Is that normal? I assume that when it’s a running bike and the brake is adjusted properly it will settle in, Is that right?

Doesn't look quite right where the cable housing goes into the lug on the swingarm. Should be much more in line with the 06.0796 threaded brake yoke. Please excuse the lack of polish in the following photo. A finely calibrated piece of cord says the cable housing is 13" long between mounting lugs. More photos and measurements on request.
-edit- Housing is closer to 12-1/2". The nipples on the ends of the ferrules that go into the lugs on the swingarm and pedal plate are 1/4" dia by 1/4" in length.

I’ll measure my cable. Mine appears to be longer than yours. If you get a chance and whenever it’s convenient, could you take a picture from behind the bracket so I can see the cable?

About like this. Reminder that there is a 2-1 exhaust on the other side and the pillion pegs have since been deleted. The extra brackets are just there for the Craven mounts.

If there is any adjustment in the Craven mounts, and the lower hole in the bracket can be moved to the top forward hole, you could use two of smaller footrest support brackets, which would really tidy things up nicely. It is what I did with my pannier mounts since I have a 2-1 as well.

I have a feeling the cable just needs to break in a little. Its not even adjusted properly yet. Maybe when the cable is tight it will fit better.

Hi Steve - you need to make a bracket to act as a fairlead so the back end of the outer cable enters the fitting on the swingarm squarely. Waiting for it to break in is a recipe for the inner cable to fail as it will chafe on the end of the outer cable where it is forced to make a hard bend. As others have noted you need the exhaust mounting plates to properly plan this .
 
I'll take a photo of my set up in the morning... looking at the above two photos the swinging arm is sitting significantly higher than mine, in fact the outer cable stop on the swing arm is almost level with the lower metalastic mounting hole.
I'm due to replace the rear shocks shortly and the ones in the basket case are currently fitted ;;; so i don't know if the length of them is correct
I have also carried out the additional washer installation behind the two 3/8 bolts so the cable is clear to run up parallel with the swing arm
 
When I used to send my old monoblocs to Lunds, they bores the carb bodies and installed very thin sleeves on the slides. both surfaces new and compatible.

Yup, folk do the same with Concentrics. I’m just not sure why when you can buy brand new Premiers with their other benefits already included !
