Thanks. It's a standard Roadster Corbin that I trimmed down. The most difficult part was cutting through the thick fiberglass.
 
I believe it's a 1969, because that's what the title says.

just picked this up last week. One day a guy asked me "When you gonna grow up and buy a motorcycle?" "I've been into the Italian scooters and have been holding off on a motorcycle until I found a Norton." I guess I met the right man to make it happen. Not sure if the seat is wrong or the tank due to a considerable gap between the two. I do have all the parts. He said it was blowing alot of oil and suspected it was the spring in the breather, where I'm suspecting rings. What do you guys think?
 
Looks to me like maybe an early FB with the tach off the timing cover. Which means it should have a FB seat and tank. Looks like a Roadster seat and tank. The oil tank cover is a give away it's not a Roadster. Better photo would help. I'd say it's probably a 68 production, 69 registration. Look for a plate on the headstock, behind the headlamp. Engine number would help too. It's on the crank case top next to the cylinder, drive side I think. Should be a number stamped on top of the GB too.

Looks like a canted Atlas in a later (relative) frame with the mag off the back and all.

If it is a '68 (or early '69?) then it probably won't have a headstock certification plate.
 
I don't know what early 69 production date means, but mine is Apr 69 132031 and was an S model. Unfortunately, my number list doesn't list the R model. I bet it was right in there with the S and early FB models. Did the R have the timing side tach cable? That would have made it at least pre-S and most likely 68 prod dates. I have a Mar 69 date 13162x from dirtymartini which was probably also an S model.

It will be interesting.

The 'R' Type was introduced at the same time as the 'S' and made its debut in March 1969. It was destined for the American market and was styled more as a street scrambler, owing something to the P11 and the Fastback but in some respects heralding some of the forthcoming Roaster design features. It had high bars and a small 2.25 gallon petrol tank, available in blue or red but a conventional dual seat unlike the Fastback type. It was in other respects, similar to the Fastback. The 'R' Type did not have the modified points drive from the end of the camshaft as on the 'S' Type, except for a few late machines. It was fairly soon removed from the range and today is a rare machine usually being found only in the U.S.A.

Thanks L.A.B. Looks to me like the R was a combo of the early FB with the silencers, timing side tach cable, oil tank on the side, but with the S or later Roadster up to 70 tank and seat. I suppose they were trying to use up parts? Or maybe it was a real production design. Be interesting to know. I'm just bloviating.

here's what I found.... on the engine 20M3/127367 and stamped in the frame I found 127367. I'm looking to make the bike proper and fairly stock and have no idea what seat and tank belong. thanks guys.

You better read the other replies. It may be an R model. A rarity among Commandos. But that rear fender is probably not original.

I've owned this Norton since 1984 but with a 2 year break when I sold it in 1994 and bought it back in 1996.

Absolutely gorgeous bike, Sky...this is the exact style I'm going to head when my wrists & back get too old for my Dunstall / Tomeselli Clipon setup.

One observation, though...you might want to consider some plastic sleeve over that braided brake line...it appears it's rubbing on your lower fork member (photo #8 in the series)...won't be long before it gouges out a divot.
