Those flames are stunning, norton73! Is it the Interstate tank? Rear sets and a Norman Hyde seat, all set up for distance in comfort... I like :)

seeing the clocks isn`t the problem....got good sight to them. getting off the bike is sometimes a problem.....when you are stiff from a long ride...

I have the same problem; my old creaking bones require regular long hot baths :!: :(

Thanks. Both tanks are Interstate tanks. The flame tank looks far better in the pic than it does close up. I picked it up off ebay many years ago cheap. I caswelled the inside before installing, but I must have not done it correctly, 'cause after a season of riding, the liner started to peel :cry:

I've got another steel tank kicking around, along with a '74 commando that's been sitting since the early '80s. I've been thinking of getting the steel tank painted with flames when I build that bike up;

The Hyde seat is ok for day trips, but my lard ass will start feeling the pan through the foam towards the end of the day. I either replace it with a stock seat or use a pakistani taxi driver beaded seat for touring.

But I do like it for general use, I feel more like I'm in the bike as opposed to sitting up high and reaching down to it.
 
I'm shattered.
Spent some time in Hook Norton, a few decades back now, didn't realise there still was a brewery down Brewery Lane. !

The height free standing without any weight is 750mm with the 18" rear ,not sure what the height was with the 16" but it was way low and an effort to put on the mainstand.Now is exactly how I want it finally.The shocks are shorter which come with the frame which all adds to it.I had a corbin seat on before but this seat is way more comfortable on a trip.

I looked at your build thread, too bad it got cluttered up with people agruing over the lowboy designation. I'd like to see more pics of the rear brake set up.
 
Hello everyone. New here, just purchased a 1973 850 Commando with 22,000 mi from the original owner. I have owned her a week and in the process of tearing her down. She slept for 20 years in his garage and in 2011 he put her back on the road spending in the area of $7000, however has not touched the transmission or engine, a little smoke out the left side and all the seals and gaskets leak. Going to be a fun project!

Welcome here. The lad pictured could well be our youngest member - in a few years ?
Nice looking cycle, although $7k without going into the engine. ??
You have the rijjinal low Interstate pipes - treasure them ?
Although they are rumoured to scrape if you really lean it over...

Rohan, Thanks for your thoughts. Unfortunately the previous owner had replaced the right hand pipe due to a back end run in with a buddy who wasn't paying attention. When removing them I noticed the one on the right is without a baffle and the left one has one so out they go. Good thing for the equalizer on the exhaust off the manifolds.
