Right. I have no idea why someone would do that rather than using a thread insert. I would either replace that cover with a nice used one or although expensive: https://andover-norton.co.uk/en/shop-details-2/16717/timing-cover-750-850-mk3-c-w-all-fittings which includes a safe anti-wet sump valve.I’m assuming there shouldn’t be 4 holes where the timing plate mounts. Correct? Looks like they drilled and taped holes right next to the original
