that ebay is the one, as used on the Mk3 version of Commando.It has the extra inspection cap so that timing chain tension can be checked without taking cover off/disturbing ignition timing. It also has different internal components to help with wet sumping as Greg has said, though these should be checked as it is not new.

Yes, it is actually a MKIII cover. The one on eBay has the added value of a pressure relief valve which you may or may not need. That seller is pretty good about accepting offers and since the new one is nearly $400 delivered, his current price is not bad. The new one comes with the various seals, but you'll need a complete gasket set and the ones from AN include all gaskets and seals so that's not a big deal.

The eBay one has been bead blasted and appears to be missing the valve and spring. If you buy that, you will need these that don't come in the gasket set: 06.6190 (MKIII-type oil pump seal), 06.6198 (valve spring), 06.6199 (valve). All available from AN.

You get three tries at offers. I would start at $125 and see how it goes.

Coming back to my yokes: I finally managed to get a matching top yoke on ebay, stamped with NM 061917 to match my existing bottom yoke 061916. Got them both nicely powder coated, only to realise while trying to insert a stanchion, that the bottom one is bent way out of line:

I guess it must be pretty hard to get it back into exactly the correct shape. Or is there a technique for this? Preferably one that won't ruin my nice new finish.

Question: If I plan to upgrade the center stand to the later style stand, would it make more sense to also get a later style engine cradle rather than widening the center stand holes on the early cradle?

Do the later style cradles fit for all engines?

Your original 1970 centre stand mounts onto the frame so there shouldn't be any stand holes in the cradle if it's the 1970 type.

Got it. I just re-read your earlier post.

Therefore my question is if I do plan to convert to later style center stand (which mounts to the cradle correct?) would it make most sense to just get a later style cradle or try to drill my current cradle? just preference?

I don't know where to find it right now, but you'll need a drawing with dimensions of where to drill the holes. There is little room for error with the placement of those holes. You'll also need to know where to drill the oil filter housing holes - again not a lot of room for error.

Good to know. Thank you. Let me know if you find the drawing, ill do some searching.

My early cradle doesn't have oil filter holes as the early models did not have an oil filter (at least thats my understanding, this is my first Norton)

Since I´m tryin´ to put a fork together from nothing, I´m searchin´ the net for parts. And I´ve realized that I´m not up to date with the terminology here :? . What is the long/short roadholder about? Was any of them on a Commando? I mean that fork was called roadholder.

1. Featherbed frames used 3 types of yokes for solos;
(a) 7" stanchion centres, all 26 tpi
(b) 7.3/8" stanchion centres, 26 tpi, introduced in 1964
(c) 7.3/8" stanchion centres, 28 tpi, introduced in 1968
As all the above can be interchanged the year of manufacture can only be used as a guide.

2. Norton/Matchless hybrids of the mid '60's used longer 'Short Roadholder' forks. The main
difference is the fork seal holder, our part no.
3.1968-70 Commando models use featherbed type (c) yokes. These have the column nuts
above the headstock, the later models...
