Recesses for the buttons on the carrier on the Norvil floating disc built up and machined correctly, carrier hard anodised. The recesses for the buttons were oversized ex factory it seems. :shock:

Simply stunning! I like to see something new now and then, and the silver finish on the timing and primary cover is clever and looks sharp! Kudos!
 
Would love to post a picture of my mk3 fastback but am defeated by the site, so how does one do it? Interesting thing is the fairing, Its an Avon and I rode down to
wiltshire and bought the last one before the factory closed. It was initially developed for the Velocette 24hr record holder and was slightly modified to fit the Commando.
Avon did all the fibre glass for the Norton factory . Gives 10-15 mph on top end makes 90mph cruising a doddle - and you keep your feet dry!

Could you order the fairing fitted from new through the Dealer, or is it added afterwards by the owner, or Dealer.
Old time pics show a lot of variations of fairings back then, not surprising given the English weather,
which have mostly vanished over the ensuing decades...
 
Thanks... will try that You could have ordered Norvil components and had them dealer fitted- This was the fairing supplied with the production racer . In practice probably only the sporting and custom bike dealers would have been prepared to do this. Dunstall did his own fairings ,as did Gus Kuhn . These came complete with fitting kits and could have been specified on a new bike. The Avon Fairing I first saw at the Racing and Sporting Motor Cycle show whose stand it was on not sure. The one fitted to my bike I rode down to the Avon factory and fitted in situ. They supplied a basic fitting kit , a fairing frame for the upper and brackets for the lowers. Its three piece . The perspex nose cone could be unscrewed and a solid glass fibre one put on . The idea was you could then go straight out on the track for pr events. I have never seen one on another Commando since. On Velo Thruxtons yes this is the fairing originally developed for the 24hr event and supplied for Nortons with different fittings.
Apparently it was developed in a wind tunnel the screen being adjusted shaped and angled so that water just blew straight over.

Home again. The mid-trip mpg I quoted above was for US gallon (damn you Google default).
The final figure is 58 miles per Imperial (UK) gallon.
If a Roadster tank is 3 Imp gallons then my calculated range is 174 miles (i.e. in Oz talk = 20.53 km per litre with a 13.5 litre tank for a range of 277 km).

i notice the carbs aren't original & dunno if maney offered a street exhaust, but guessing no, does the maney work on a stock engine?

I don't know how a Maney exhaust would work on a stock motor.
I would point out though, that they are a racing system, designed with race cams etc in mind .
But I'd also point out that they are not available any more anyway!
