Fresh out of the garage after an inexcusably long rebuild. Can't go anywhere on it due to the 'essential journeys only' Nazis, but I'm pleased with how it came out :)

One disappointment is the seat, which was apparently an early attempt at an 'S' Type seat by Leightons, done a few years ago. The latest ones sold by Andover Norton are much closer, being the right overall shape, but the quilting isn't 100% correct. I may just have to settle for one of those, as the current one is a bit of a minger!


I have a 71 in the blue fire flake but she still wears the glass fuel tank.

My Brother use to go around in circles in the mid 70's on one of these it was a Trackmaster frame Triumph unfortunately it was stolen . It was a real big improvement over the little Yamaha TD 1B Trackmaster he had in his Novice years ,I use to push my azz off trying to start that bike and it was especially grueling if I had stayed out to late the night before.

Hey, all, new Commando owner and forum member here from the Atlanta area. I finally got my dream bike. I can remember as a teenager scouring the want ads of the Chicago Tribune hoping that some fool would sell a Commando for a fraction of what it was worth. Of course, that never happened. The bike you see pictured is a ‘73 MK1 that I purchased from a collector who had it properly stored for 13 years. But it never saw much action - it only has 7,500 miles on it. As evidence, the “new” tires with “zero wear” were dated 2006. It’s mostly original, but maybe you can notice a few things that are not. A fair amount of work will be needed to get it ready for prime time, but that’s part of the fun, right? Looking forward to participating in the community. See you soon. Sam

allen as close as you are why haven't you came up for the three state ride. we are doing one on the 16th and several are coming up this week early to y campground for some fun.

oh bill....I am editor of our area weekly newspaper have not had a real vacation in 8 years ..I also write for a magazine called Our State Down Home in North Carolina..I basically work 8 days a week.... hopefully step back next year and have some 'spare' time thanks for the invite...PS wife and I did that civil war reenacting thing for 17 years I am 'over ' camping give me a nice bed and shiny porcelain over laying on de ground again
 
well i do have a couple of cabins and a nice shower house so if you dont like the ground it is an option. check the web site in my sig line

Looks like a really nice bike. Nothing overtly non-standard apart from the drilled disc which I would leave as-is (although I prefer a simpler pattern if drilled).

Enjoy it!

Thanks, Paul. Yes, the disc is the obvious change. Right now that is not even on my radar list to change. So the other bits that I know are not original are the front fender and stay (fender is for a MK3), the fork triple clamps have been painted, plug wires, petcocks, handlebars and mirror. Exhaust looks new, so I assume it’s not original. And the tank has been repainted, not particularly well. I’m going to try out a set of K81’s, event though they have some mixed reviews, they are period correct and just look cooler than Roadriders IMHO.
 
Welcome Sam , you sure got lucky with your first Norton , looks very well cared for , you will find all you need to know here on this forum plus more that you will have to decide on , info that is .... glad for you that after the long years you got what you wished for , enjoy !
